UC Davis Partisan Affect Survey & Project
America is a nation divided. The purpose of this project is to quantify the level of partisans’ dislike of individuals holding opposing party identification.
In the summer of 2021, my co-author, Spencer Kiesel, and I collected a nationally representative sample of 2,000 U.S. adults on Lucid’s opt-in Internet survey platform.
We asked respondents about their party identification, to offer one word describing members of their own party and the opposing party, to code the sentiment of that word themselves, and then we tested their level of partisan dislike using a conjoint experiment.
